VISUALLY STUNNING INSIDE & OUT: THE DENVER ART MUSEUM

The Denver art museum is a must-visit when you're looking for things to do in Denver. It's known for its large collection of Native American Art and is home to over 68,000 works from around the world. 

The Art Museum is also known for it's unique architecture. It's modern look and unique features make it a popular destination for those visiting the mile-high city.

RED ROCKS!!!

Once listed as one of the seven wonders of the world, Red Rocks Amphitheater, located just outside of Denver in Morrison, Colorado, is an attraction that shouldn’t be missed.  Natural sandstone monoliths not only provide a dramatic stage for concerts and performances, they also produce the perfect acoustical setting. But even if you aren’t able to see a show at Red Rocks, it is still worth a visit. There are a number of hiking and biking trails that will allow you to experience the unique geology and amazing views out over the Great Plains.

If you are hungry after exploring the park, the Ship Rock Grille is Red Rock’s restaurant, open daily for brunch. The patio is another great way to soak up the scenery. If you’re attending a concert, you can also make reservations for a pre-show dinner. 

If you can’t make a concert, Film on the Rocks is another great way to experience Red Rocks. Held on Tuesday nights during the summer, the Denver Film Societyplays movies on a big screen on the stage. Get there early to tailgate or enjoy food and drink specials at the Ship Rock Grille. Advance tickets are available for $10.50 at King Soopers grocery stores or $12 at the box office on the day of the show. However, many movies sell out!

Whether you attend a concert, Film on the Rocks, or just go to hike some of the park’s trails, you’re guaranteed to enjoy your trip to Red Rocks. If you are just going for the day, be sure to check the concert schedule--the park closes early on concert days.

AN EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE AT THE MUSEUM OF NATURE AND SCIENCE

The museum has a number of permanent and temporary exhibitions in addition to an interactive learning center for young children, an IMAX theater and Planetarium. Located in City Park near downtown, it offers ample free parking and is within walking distance to the Denver Zoo.

Prehistoric Journey will take you from 3.5 billion years ago to the present, tracing the evolution of single-celled organisms to dinosaurs, mammals and eventually humans.  You can even examine ancient fossils yourself! Explore the wonders of the universe in Space Odyssey’s many hands-on exhibits or get up close and personal with two Egyptian mummies who are over 3,000 years old. Other permanent exhibits include Gems and Minerals, Wildlife and North American Indian Cultures. 

Learn about health and your body in the museum’s newest and most interactive permanent exhibit, Expedition Health.  Personalized activities allow you to see and measure the way our own body changes and adapts to the choices you make. Look at your own cells under a microscope in the laboratory or see what you might look like in 50 years using a special computer program.

General admission is $11 for adults, $6 for children and seniors. IMAX and Planetarium shows are extra.  There are a number of free days throughout the year in which general admission is free for Colorado residents (IMAX and Planetarium fees still apply).
